INN & OUT: SAVANNAH, GEORGIA
Enjoy wandering around the 1700’s… be sure to hit these food & drink spots…
RESTAURANTS:
The Grey: Built in the old Greyhound Station this little gem had a GREAT vibe. A bar area, then another one that centers the dining room. Although the menu was pretty concise, everything we had was delicious. Including the drinks! Reservation is recommended… however, you might be able to walk in if you’re patient or early.
The Olde Pink House: There is so much history (and hauntings) in this building. If you’re into that sort of thing it was originally owned by one of the original ‘Son’s of Liberty’ contributors in the Revolutionary War. If you’re into food, we opened with the Fried Green Tomatoes and they were glorious, the fried pork chop was BIG! Head down to the Tavern Bar in the basement for a nightcap. You’ll definitely need a reservation here!
Garibaldi: We ate here for Thanksgiving. The lady had the duck and it was incredible… as was the butternut squash soup. The design and ambience is classic upscale, much like its sister restaurant The Olde Pink House.
HOTELS:
The Alida: Probably the best Tribute Portfolio hotel we’ve ever stayed in… that should say it all. Like most hotels on the river its build in an old industrial warehouse that has amazing old charm. Its staff were incredibly friendly offering free sparkling wine and fresh hot cookies for ‘happy hour’ from 3-5P. It has a rooftop bar, The Lost Square, with quality cocktails where one can dine in a yurt during the winter! They also have a solid restaurant on the property at The Rhett with live music and a cute pool / fire-pit area outside. We even bought some of their apparel, does that say enough?
LIBATIONS:
The Peacock Lounge: Located underneath Flock to the Wock (Chinese restaurant) this was probably my favorite of the cocktail bars in town. It was so well decorated in modern deco and the staff were fantastic and made us both classic and unique cocktails. What a scene-change as you descend from the restaurant!
Tip: You can order certain Chinese dishes to the bar. We recommend asking nicely for the soup dumplings, wow!
Artillery Bar: Located on the grounds of where pre-revolutionary cavalry would store their artillery, this 1896 structure is gorgeous and the bar in there today is as well. They can make just about anything, unique or classic, but if you want to drink the history you’re standing on I dare you to order their ‘Chatham Artillery Punch.’ Supposedly what was served to President Washington.
Alley Cat Lounge: Literally, in an alley and down the stairs. Great craft cocktails, enjoy!
ACTIVITIES:
Genteel & Bard’s Ghost Tours: ‘Live’ through Savannah’s dark history on this fantastic ghost walking tour.
Tip: Do this toward the beginning of your trip, it will give you ideas on what to revisit later!
Cheers, gents!
