INN & OUT: MADRID, SPAIN
Spain’s BIGGEST city…
Explore this prehistoric meets contemporary metropolis!
Here are few spots we recommend:
HOTELS:
Circulo Gran Via, Autograph Collection: The building dates back to 1924 (young for Madrid) but has so much charm. It used to be home to The Circle of Trade & Industrial Union of Madrid and now it’s a Marriott Bonvoy 18+ Adults Only hotel, centrally located for easy walking everywhere you need to go to see the city!
RESTAURANTS:
Restaurante Botin: The oldest restaurant in the world! For real, been in operation since 1725. In fact, the cellar dates back to 1590! The suckling pig has been served so long its mentioned in ‘The Sun Also Rises’ by Ernest Hemingway.
LIBATIONS:
Macera Taller Bar: A lab for making spirits… no, really… they make their own spirits, then mix brilliant cocktails.
This place is a vibe, too. All walkable from the mid point of the city.
La Venencia: Speaking of Hemingway… this was part of his 1930’s tour of Madrid. No cocktails here, just sherry! Fortified wine, mainly from southern Spain. It’s understood that Spanish Republican soldiers would drink here between fighting the facists. Hemingway would also drink here to get news on the front. Enjoy the vibe!
Tip: Get here early for Happy Hour :)
ACTIVITIES:
Plaza Mayor: Historically, the center market of Madrid. Great for enjoying some historic architecture dating back to the 1600’s (the plaza itself dates back to the 1500’s) while people watching.
Tip: Walk just a couple minutes to the Mercado de San Miguel, an indoor market with amazing local pastries, cheeses and other goodies!
El Retiro Park: This stunning park is home to the ‘Glass Palace,’ built in 1887 as a greenhouse. Now, its one of the most photogenic opps in Madrid!
