INN & OUT: TAMPA, FLORIDA
Just in town to escape the snow? See a hockey game? Bush Gardens?
Here are the must-see / eat / drink spots.
HOTELS:
The Edition: If you love luxury & earning Marriott Bonvoy points, this is the place! Right across the street from the Amalie Arena, a few blocks from the Florida Aquarium and amongst plenty of night life this location is fantastic. You can also just enjoy the lush resort complete with every inner-city hotel (high-end) amenity you could want.
Le Meridien: Mix one of Marriott Bonvoy’s standard line hotels with a little bit of Tampa’s enriched history as this establishment is Tampa’s original courthouse, post office and custom house dating back to 1902. Additionally, you’re a couple blocks from the the riverwalk and historic theater district.
RESTAURANTS:
Bern’s Steakhouse: If there is one dining staple in this city, its Bern’s. Ranked #1 on multiple lists for steakhouses across the USA, its no wonder when you take a tour of one of the world’s largest wine collections where one can buy a ‘glass’ dating back to 1973 (and we encourage this… when else can you modestly splurge on time traveling?). The dessert room and steaks won’t disappoint, quite possibly one of the best Mac & Cheese’s / NY Strips I’ve ever had.
Tip: Getting a reservation is tough, but get there early and get a spot in their lounge / bar as a walk-in!
Casa Cami: Located on the rooftop of the Current Hotel, this place had the best flautas I’ve ever had with a wonderful view of Greater Tampa Bay. I also appreciate the heat on their Salsa Roja, enjoy if you like a bite!
COFFEE:
Oxford Exchange: Yes, you can grab an amazing brunch, write a novel, meet up with friends… but I love their coffee bar. The aesthetics here are classic and gorgeous in a structure dating back to 1891!
Tip: They don’t have wi-fi, yeah… that sucks. BUT… the coffee bar serves lovely espresso martinis!
LIBATIONS:
Alter Ego: Their IG and website say ‘energetic vibes & soulful hospitality’ which sound spot-on. It feels like walking into a contemporary small lounge in the year 1978 with soul-funk being mixed live with a velvet-like aesthetic. Loved their Pisco Sour!
ACTIVITIES:
Tampa Theater: Peep an Indy or foreign film in an original 1926 theater. There are so few of these gems left, at least get a pic!
Amalie Arena: Catch a concert or a Lightning NHL game right in the heart of downtown… walkable from most of these places!
Riverwalk: A beautiful walk, run or bike around the city’s skyscrapers often with cool water-side events to enjoy with family.
Cheers, gents!
